Pumpkins are lots of fun to grow and even more fun to enjoy, whether they become jack-o-lanterns or delicious pies, breads, etc. And don’t forget to bake the seeds for tasty snacks. They are easy to grow and require sufficient space for the vines to spread. Excellent in a child’s garden.
Select sunny location and sow seed when the soil has warmed. Plants prefer fertile soil. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, working in vegetable food and organic matter and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed and keep moist. Keep soil moist, weed free, and feed monthly. For large fruit pinch off all but 1 or 2 pumpkins per plant. Cut from vine, leaving 3 in. of stem when shell is hard.
